Is It Possible? YES, BUT… { 2021 UPDATE }

Casting Sky Go via Chromecast seems like an excellent alternative to Sky’s multi-screen subscription.

After playing with Sky Go, I found some tricks that may solve your problem. Is Sky Go Casting available on Chromecast in all regions? Are there any other grouting options?

There is some confusion about Sky Go and Chromecast, which we will clear up in this article. Some people say Sky Go doesn’t work with Chromecast, while others say it works very well, who’s right? The answer is correct.

Can you switch to Chromecast?

You can only play Sky Go on Chromecast in New Zealand using the latest version of the Sky Go app with Chromecast Generation 3 or Ultra. Continuous casting is not currently available in the UK or elsewhere.

Stream Sky is moving to Chromecast in the UK

In the UK, casting Sky Go to Chromecast is currently not officially supported. You will not see the cast icon in the application if you are in this region. However, one option that seems to work is screen mirroring on the Chromecast.

Note that the Sky Go screen mirror is not guaranteed to work, it depends on a number of factors, but it is worth a try. One option is to download the Sky Go application to your phone and then rotate it horizontally in landscape mode, allowing you to play the content on your TV screen in full screen mode.

This allows you to watch Sky Go on Chromecast, even in areas where it is not officially supported. Here are the steps for a Sky Go to Chromecast mirror screen:

  1. Log in to Chromecast, activate screen mirroring mode
  2. Consider using an application like Momocast
  3. Open the Sky Go app on your phone
  4. Multimedia playback

Now, as mentioned earlier, you may encounter problems when trying to play Sky Go on Chromecast, especially from a mobile device.

A common mistake is to block the output of the external display, which is a form of copyright protection for Sky Go. If you encounter this error, you probably won’t be able to display Sky Go content on Chromecast.

Remember, mirroring the screen is similar to streaming your phone’s screen over a local network. Therefore, all kinds of problems are to be expected, such as delays, poor image quality and low frame rates. Most of the time it won’t even let you log in.

Casting Sky Go on Chromecast in New Zealand:

Although the latest version of the Sky Go application officially supports Chromecast casting, the problem is that the application is only available in New Zealand. In New Zealand, watering can be done in a few simple steps. This seems to work in Australia as well.

Proceed as follows:

  1. Update the Sky Go application on your mobile device
  2. Make sure your device and Chromecast are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  3. Open the Sky Go application and tap the cast icon (which looks like a TV).
  4. Watch Sky Go on your Chromecast

Sky Go is compatible with the following casting services:

  • Broadcast
  • Chromecast
  • Apple TV

More information can be found here. Unfortunately, in other regions where casting is not officially supported, such as B. in Britain, it is a little more complicated. However, there are some alternatives you should consider.

Can I entrust the Sky Go Chrome tab to Chromecast?

Sky Go does not allow you to launch from your Chrome browser tab to Chromecast or any other launch device. In fact, browser-based media can’t even play on Chrome, you need to use Firefox or an application that can be downloaded to PCs, phones and consoles.

Even in regions where casting is supported, casting through the Chrome browser tab is not allowed, casting must be done through the official application.

Why doesn’t the UK edition of Sky Go support Google Chrome?

It used to be possible to watch the web version of Sky Go through the Google Chrome web browser, but this is no longer possible today. However, this may change in the future, so it doesn’t hurt to check.

The reason Sky Go does not work with Google Chrome is that Google Chrome no longer supports the software used in Sky Go, namely Microsoft Silverlight. Chrome has moved to HTML 5 for multimedia.

Firefox is the next best option for viewing Sky Go content in the browser. It seems that Sky Go will not be changing its software any time soon.

Using VPN to change region:

Another idea is to use a VPN to change your device’s region to one where Sky Go supports casting into Chromecast, for example. For example in New Zealand or Australia.

The VPN solution is a bit tricky and unreliable, as not all VPNs can unlock Sky Go and you may run into other compatibility issues, so we won’t go into too much detail. It’s still something you can consider.

Wired options and alternatives:

Sky Go seem to be doing everything they can to avoid the shenanigans, which is a trap. If you can’t get the casting functions to work with Sky Go, you can try a wired connection. I understand that wiring is an issue, but I have a few ideas that can make your life easier.

Sky Going from Laptop to TV with HDMI cable:

The most obvious solution would be to connect your laptop to your TV via an HDMI cable and then open the Sky Go programme to watch the programmes. It’s not the best solution, but it has to be, at least until Sky Go improves the functionality of Chromecast.

Gray screen while watching Sky Go on the external display

Sky Go doesn’t seem to want you to send multimedia to external screens. Some people say they might look at it briefly and get a gray screen. The reason is not entirely clear, but it seems that the Sky Go application only works better on desktops or game consoles. The solution is to try it on another device.

Remote Desktop from PC to Laptop

Here’s an idea that’s a bit complicated and the performance won’t be very good, but it’s worth a try. Since Sky Go works best on desktop computers, you can install Chrome Remote Desktop on your computer.

Then connect your laptop (or phone) to the TV, open Chrome Remote Desktop, and you should see your PC screen. Open the Sky Go application remotely on your PC, and you’ll likely be able to watch shows like this. The problem is that Chrome Remote Desktop suffers from frame rate drops depending on how fast you connect to the internet. Either way, it’s something to try.

Phone to TV adapter via USB-C to HDMI

Another option is to connect your phone directly to your TV with a USB-C to HDMI adapter. You can do it with tablets too, they can be decent multimedia channels for TVs because they are portable and easy to use.

From there just open the Sky Go application and it works perfectly. Most phones can display video signals when connected to an adapter, and newer Samsung phones can also use Samsung Dex. If you can’t connect through the application, you probably can’t use the wired output either.

Try the Windows Emulator for Android Laptop

Another method you can try is to use Android on a PC emulator like BlueStacks, download the Sky Go application there and then try to cast it. I can’t confirm that it works, but in theory it should. This may work easier if your computer is connected to the router via Wi-Fi or a network cable.

Watch Sky Go on Xbox

Another option is to watch Sky Go on Xbox. The name of the application has been changed to TV from the air and it’s free. If you have an Xbox connected to the TV, this is the best option. Sky Go works on other consoles, including Playstation 4 and 5.

Alternatives to the Tracking Bar :

While Sky Go doesn’t work well with Casting Sticks, you can still use it with other services like Netflix or Prime that support casting on other screens. Here are some casting sticks that work very well with these media platforms:

1 – Arrow

The Amazon fire wand is a very useful wand. It supports the major media platforms: YouTube, Prime, Apple TV, Disney+, Netflix and more. You can also control it via Alexa and load all kinds of applications laterally.

Pay attention: You can download Sky Go on the side of the Firestick, but it’s a bit complicated and requires third-party applications to be installed on your Amazon device. If you allow the installation of unknown applications, you can download and install Sky Go manually. In most cases, Sky Go simply connects when you open the side-loading version.

2 – Using the game computer

As mentioned earlier, Sky Go works best with gaming consoles or desktop computers. The good news is that it not only works with the Xbox One, but also with the Playstation 5. The application is the same in both stores, it’s called Television from the Air and should work fine. I think that’s another reason to buy the console.

Latest tips:

Note that the methods mentioned in this article are not fixed and may change depending on the software update. They work for some people, but there is no guarantee that they will work, and you should try different methods to see what works for you. In most cases, with a little creativity, you can make Sky Go work with Chromecast, even if you’re outside of New Zealand.
