Not everyone feels comfortable appearing on screen during a Zoom meeting. In situations where there are many participants in a video conference, it is not always necessary to turn on the video and show yourself, especially if you are just there to listen. In most cases, you can display your profile picture so people know you are there.
Unfortunately, some users have complained that their profile picture is not displayed or not shown during Zoom meetings. If they turn off the video, only the initials of their name are shown, not their photo. That’s fine, but it doesn’t represent you as an individual.
How can I show my profile picture in Zoom Meeting instead of the video?
If you have asked yourself the same question, you can use different methods to show your profile picture during a Zoom meeting. You can try each method in turn and see which one works best for you.
Method 1 – Adding a profile picture to Zoom

You may not have added your profile picture in Zoom yet. You can do this from the Zoom web application, the mobile application, the desktop application, or your Google account.
Adding a profile picture using Zoom for Web
- To add your online profile picture, go to http://zoom.us/ in your browser.
- Log in to your account.
- Select “My Account” in the upper right corner.
- Click on Profile on the left.
- Click Change under the profile picture.
- Click on the “Download” button and select an image.
- Cut it out and click Save.
Adding a profile picture with the Zoom Mobile application
- To add a profile picture, launch the Zoom application.
- Click Settings in the lower right corner.
- Choose your name.
- Tap Photo Profile.
- Select Choose a photo. Upload your photo.
Add a profile picture via Google Account
- If you want to add your profile picture through your Google account, go to https://myaccount.google.com/.
- Log in to your Gmail account.
- Select Personal Information on the left side of the page.
- Choose a photo.
- Select the photo you want to upload.
- Click the Set as Profile Image button.
- Sign in to Zoom with your Google account and your profile picture will appear.

- On the Zoom desktop client home screen, click your profile picture in the upper right corner.
- Click Settings.
- Scroll down to the Profile section and click on the profile picture to edit it.
- Click on the “Edit Image” button and select the desired photo on your computer.
- Trim the image if necessary and click the “Save” button.
Method 2 – Add your profile picture during the meeting
- If you are in a Zoom meeting, right-click on the video.
- A list of options appears. Select Add profile picture.
- Select a photo and choose “Save”.
- You can then disable the video so that the image appears in your profile.
Method 3 – Ask the facilitator of the scale-up meeting.

The meeting organizer may have enabled the “Hide photos in member profile” feature. You can ask them to disable this feature by going to the “Settings” menu. It can be found under In Meeting (primary) or under Security.
Method 4 – Log in to your Zoom account.

In some cases, users participated in a meeting as guests and not through their accounts. In this case, their profile picture will not appear on the screen. Next time you join a meeting, simply log in to your account, or you can simply log out and join the meeting with your account to see your profile picture.
